Karel Dicker

Born in 1989, Dicker lives and works in Maastricht, Netherlands, where he currently dedicates his focus to the art of still-life painting.

Dicker’s canvases capture moments in progress, extending beyond the painting’s edges and frame, where individuals partake in the act of sipping from glasses and inhaling smoke from cigarettes. Functioning like a magnifying glass, the artwork hones in on a distinctive facet of everyday scenarios.

Dicker’s creations depict the narrative unfolding at the table and the interplay between the objects and their users. Within the painting, objects come to life, moving rhythmically through layers of paint, with different colours overlapping and lines intricately woven from the initial stroke to the final detail.
