Born in 1992 in Germany, Parole is a multidisciplinary artist lives and works in London, UK.
Drawing from self-fiction and autotheory, she uses her art as a medium to digest life, unpack relational behaviours and introspective patterns. Poetic humour weaves through vibrant, eclectic installations where intimate memories and feelings are reflected through various styles and materials.
Her experiences are dissected, inspected and reassembled in the ultimate attempt to demystify them and dismantle internalised narratives around womanhood, destiny and fairy tale romance. Such a surgical and emotional process is resolved in artworks that reflect rituals of closure initiated by the smell of incense or the sound of rippling oysters. It’s in the tension between keeping and letting go that manifests catharsis, and inner transformation occurs.
Parole differentiates her work in past and current, creating series according to the themes coming up for her. She analyses her past through nostalgic, more realistic works (often from family albums) and her current state of heart (usually reflecting feelings towards her “love life”) through a fantastic world of alter ego figures, which she calls “wormy people.”
As a sculptural element of connection throughout her diverse works, she likes to use work-specific frames, often in fluorescent plexiglass, as another layer to the narrative of each piece. The frame can be understood as an indicative window to the shown scenery, either complimenting the sentiment or disrupting it.
Parole is also the Co-Founder of the ‘Filthy Fox Auction Club‘, auctioning works of emerging artists who recently graduated from London’s art schools and thereby helping them to sustain their early careers.
